Not that I am condoning this but it would be intresting to see what would happen if loads of people started making deliberately fake claims about big brand companies. If they kept them live it would show a flaw in the system and if they took them down it might pave the way for other false claims to be removed.

RoR is purposely trying to out-rank large companies w/ their SEO efforts… (while they say they do not write the reports) they sure as hell write the titles using every keyword on the site (wonder why that would be?) Hmmmm lets think about it for a second…

Ah yes, just a good ‘ol site out there to help the consumers… I don’t think so! The Corporate Advocacy program is what used to be referred to as EXTORTION! True anyone can say anything on the web… I for one say ROR is a bunch of asshats! .02

Honestly there are some strange people on that site to begin with. It’s like all the angry people in the world who are too anoying in real life to listen to at the office decided to get together and create a site where they could tool on eachother about how bad xxx is and how shaddy xxx is and so on.

There are far more real sources of this style of information out there like the bbb.org or your local chamber of commerce.

I hope people eventually get a grip.

I have to admit that is a pretty bad attitude by ROR.

Looking at that attitude makes me wonder what % of the reports are actually false.

@Joeschmo – What grinds my gears about ROR is that they don’t check to see if something is real and not only that they don’t care if the info on their site is real or made up.

What Ed Magedson says in the email (On a high horse in my opinion) “Hopefully you realize the true value of Rip-off Report for consumers, the authorities and the media.”

This value is reduced to WORTHLESS because the info on the site not only can be false – they don’t care if it is or not… It is true what you say “some people are decent human beings”… (and as you might be aware) what is posted on the internet isn’t always honest – or from decent human beings (big shock… most people suck) – especially when you can post with fake information and not be held accountable for your actions.

yeah, you could be an a** and have no ethics and abuse the system by filing a false claim at ROR, but some people are decent human beings. And, if the person you filed falsely against ever joined their CAP program, you could face some serious defamation charges. I think the vast majority of people are humane, and RipoffReport serves the public justly. The response from Magedson isn’t the “F-U” you claim it is, but rather tries to explain his side of the story and why he’s had to protect the site from two people who both claim they’re right. Is the system perfect? No, but it’s pretty darn good when people are expected to be honest, truthful and agree to the terms on the site. Anyone can say anything anywhere, and because ROR ranks well (because people use it), they’re in the crosshairs. If not there, though, it will be somewhere else on the web and usually is.
